21 Days of Hygge: 5 Ways to Create a Vision Board that Works

During this 21-days of hygge extravaganza, I have offered you an opportunity to get cozy with both daydreams and wishes here, and then, a chance to uncover hidden wishes. But now, it's time to go big or go home! And then, you can take all of these wishes and turn them into intentions you place on a vision board...

Hot Chocolate & a Visualization Exercise

So for this particular hot chocolate moment, I thought we could try to get a little wild with our wishing. I encourage you to start to dream big. Sip and imagine the biggest wish you could manifest. Daydream up to the sky and beyond.

The thing about wishing (or intention-setting) is that you want to be as relaxed as possible and be able to really enjoy the experience. Well, the hot chocolate will help with that, right?

As I have suggested before, give yourself time to imagine your wishes coming true.

Today, try listening to yourself tell the story to someone else about how each wish came true. Of course, the real person you are telling it to is yourself, but pretend it's someone you have just met, who hasn't heard the story.

As you sip, you can continue this visualization, or daydream, until you are finished with your hot chocolate. Or, if you think you might need more time, make a pot of tea. ;)

5 Ways to Create a Vision Board for Your Wishes

"What’s the big secret to creating a vision board that works? It’s simple: Your vision board should focus on how you want to feel, not just on things that you want. Don’t get me wrong, it’s great to include the material stuff, too. However, the more your board focuses on how you want to feel, the more it will come to life." -Elizabeth Rider, Huffington Post

Once you feel complete with your visualization, have made your wish stories as believable as possible, and have connected to the way you want to feel as they come true, you are ready to solidify them as intentions, by making a vision board.

Here are 5 ways to make one based on your wishes...

(1) Create a vision board using your journal pages. You can draw or paint pictures of what you're wishing for, adding words or stickers or anything else you need.

(2) Create a vision board using magazines & cardboard paper & frame it. This is the kind of vision board I used to make regularly, but never thought to frame. Framing it would give it honor & you can give it a home in a place where you are likely to pass by it often.

(3) Create a vision board scrapbook. You could create visual scenes of memories you want to make in the future. It could potentially become a treasure you open frequently to remind yourself of those intentions.

(4) Create a digital vision board using Pinterest. I did this on New Year's Day. But I didn't like having my vision board in cyberspace where I can only connect if I am near a device. I'd rather have something physical or something I could print that would then become physical. How about you?

(5) Create a digital vision board using Canva. See the video below for instructions. One thing you could do after creating a Canva vision board is print it and then frame it so you have it physically in your presence.

Which of these vision board methods appeals to you most?

And what will your daydreams & wishes vision board help you create?

If you want to see the vision board I created for 2018, go to hygge vision board. You'll also find a video about how to create a vision board just for winter.

See you next time!

Love, Jeanine

Love this!!! Great tips, thank you. I especially love the vision journal since my visions expand and change over time.

Oh, great point, Val! That's true, a journal vision board could evolve over time.

I've seen so many people doing vision boards. I've never tried it, but might have to give it a go at some point as lots of people say it works :-).

I believe it does work, but not just because it's a vision board. It's more about the intention-setting/wishing/dreaming process, the willingness to have it come true, the commitment involved in making it and all kinds of things.

I heard a story once about a man who had just bought a new house he and his family all loved. They were packing up to move in & he was in the attic, sorting out what he wanted to keep and what he thought they should give or throw away, when he found an old vision board he had created years ago. He'd forgotten all about it and obviously, had relegated it to the attic as storage. Well, one of his wishes had been to find a home and he had founds words and pictures to support it. As he looked at it that day, he saw a picture of a house that looked almost exactly like the one he had just bought. Do they work? I think so.

I love the idea of the vision board scrapbook... filling a scrapbook with my hopes and my dreams and the freedom to nurture my wild imagination. It is something tangible to hold and look at and help to continue to grow.

My vision board would be with photos I've taken, mostly of my grandchildren, I have hopes and dreams for all of them. I also have my hot chocolate ready.

Oh, that is so, so sweet, Martha!!! I can just see you now, turning a page, looking at the pictures and then pausing to visualize all the wonderful things you are wishing for them.

I would make a future vision board with magazine pics and cut outs. I like to visualize vacations and scenery to visit in the future. Then with my goal set, I get to work to make that happen.

That sounds great, Anne! And you could even take it a step further and watch videos or movies of the place you want to go for help with picturing yourself there.

Almost like using Canva for an electronic Vision Board, you can also create a Pinterest Board with images!

Thanks for sharing!

Yes, you can! And I love looking at gorgeous pictures on Pinterest as much as the next person. :) But I tried it and then felt disconnected from it because it wasn't in my physical space. I think I need something I can see every day, you know?

I keep thinking about this, and have not gotten down to actually working on it yet... hot chocolate (and tea) will definitely help :)
