Tea Rituals: 5 Ways to Elevate Your Tea Break

2/11/2021

My ultimate favorite ritual is my mid afternoon tea ritual that I make time and space for every single day. It’s the daily practice of preparing & drinking tea that reminds me – life can slow down, and breaks are important.
-The Grounding Magic of Tea Ritual

If you're like me, and you love a good cup of tea, you might be used to having your tea as a companion to whatever else you might be doing at the time. I encourage you to make your afternoon tea moment an event in and of itself, and let it be one of the ways you add cozy moments to your day.

One way to elevate it from the experience of just drinking something while you're busy doing something else, is to create a tea ritual.

Here are simple ideas to create one.

While tea drinking has been scientifically-proven to reduce stress levels, there’s also an increasing body of research that suggests that the ritual of brewing and drinking tea is just as beneficial as drinking it.

Tea Rituals: 5 Ways to Elevate Your Tea Break

Turn your afternoon tea break into an elevated and cozy experience, by making it a tea ritual, using one or more of these five ideas...

(1) Light a tealight candle.

(2) Be present to the process of making your tea.

(3) Try a one-minute meditation as you drink it, and imagine a peaceful moment or scene.

(4) Make a wish for your day as you drink your last sips of tea.

(5) Blow out your tealight candle.

See you tomorrow!

I love this idea of a tea ritual, Jeanine. I'm so impressed with Oprah's equipment in her video, too. I think I want that tea pot with the plunger infuser and that electric frother! Oh my!

Thanks for planting the idea for me to start my own tea ritual.

You're welcome! I want a frother, too. I think I might get one.

LOVE THIS. I drink hot tea almost every day in the winter time or whenever it's real cold. I really like your suggestions and will have to try some of the tomorrow morning. What a great way to start the day! Thanks for sharing.

I did buy a couple of different teas - but in bags since I'm not a big tea drinker. But I'm going to get in a tea habit. :) What I really want is that milk frother!

Awww! Well, baby steps. Maybe a cup of tea now and then, and then add on a step here and there...

I love tea. I used to enjoy tea parties with my mom. They were almost rituals. She pronounced it Tea-Par-Tea. We loved adding lemon to our tea. Lots of lemon. In fact, my mom added so much lemon that she started calling the tea "hot lemonade." We also ate something with our tea: either cheese or cookies. Such happy memories of my mom. I think of her when I am pouring my tea.

Oh, that's so sweet, Alice!! I love that it's nostalgic for you. It's somewhat that way for me, too. I had this magical Christmas night once, when my mother had a party when I was 8 or 9. There was apple cider and cinnamon. And I have been drawn to the scent and taste ever since.

What a sweet memory of a happy Christmas with your mom! I could see the joyful look on your face as your mom set up the party and created the magic. There is nothing quite like that sort of magic!

That's true, Alice! Her parties always seemed magical. And that apple cider was so delicious. Especially after being out in the cold, singing Christmas carols. :)
