Are You a Mermaid?

One of the things Kati has said about the Mermaid archetype that I love is that Mermaids are often found alone doing whatever has captured their attention, happy in their own little world, completely absorbed. At best, they are self-contained. At worst, maybe slightly self-absorbed?

That description is definitely true of me. Once I am absorbed in something, I forget about the cold, cruel world for a while and quickly become absorbed instead in the book I'm reading, the movie I'm watching or even my cup of tea.

Does any of that resonates with you? If it does, or if you are playful, quirky & creative, Mermaid might be a good archetype to explore.

See you next time!

Jeanine

The only mermaid I can recall was Daryll Hannah in that (almost) forgettable movie [because of Tom Hanks, not her!].

Hi Roy! I can't remember if I have seen that movie or not, but I remember it being out. Btw, there are mermen, too, but I have no idea what they would wear.

I can be self-contained, but this style is definitely not one I go for. It looks pretty on others but it looks so stiff!

Jill, YES!!! I so agree! That is exactly my problem, too, and why it won't work for me. I do wear thicker knits at time, but they have to be comfy. :)

Jeanine, well, here's an easy one! I am not she! I'm neither playful nor aloof. More deep and warm and straightforward. And I no longer care if people like my nature, but that's maturity and boundaries, not aloofness. OK, don't like the outfit, but hey, liking so many of the types and outfits has been my issue with this system-- a happy problem! Thanks for another fun post.

You're welcome, Kebba! And I know exactly what you mean. Though I can relate to the idea of being content in my own little world, this type is not a fit for me. Not in any way.

Interesting type. I can get that way, too... totally focused on my painting... Don't know if that's me, though. The clothing is definitely not me. It looks kind of tight and not flowing at all. Looking forward to more mermaid stories!

Thanks, Alice! Well, for me, that resonance turned out to be a red herring. No matter how many times I took another look at Mermaid, to see if maybe it was my type, it just wasn't.

I'm like Roy, how I loved that movie! After reading your description, I could be a mermaid, I love being in my own little world at times!

The more I think about it, Martha, the more I think I probably haven't seen the movie. Glad you liked it, though. And I love being in my own little world. I often feel like that late at night, when all is quiet & I am queen of my domain. ;)
