"So let’s read this adventure book aloud while drinking cocoa with extra puffy marshmallows and the wacky straws we got in our stockings. The couch looks cozy."
Hygge is a word that suggests everyday moments of coziness, comfort & bonded connection, with yourself in the form of self-care or with those who mean the most to you. And as a homeschooling mom, I know you care very much about the homeschooling experience you create for your children.
Paired together, hygge homeschooling is the practice of creating moments during your child's homeschooling day that are warm and cozy, that bring comfort, and that support or help generate closer connection. In my own experience, I have found that being grounded in hygge experiences is so calming that it makes the homeschooling process, the teaching & the learning, much easier.
Add in winter hibernation & you have a trifecta you can use to create what could become the best moments in your homeschooling year.
Snuggling under a blanket while sipping hot chocolate after a nature walk or nature observation from your spot on the balcony, while you're all wrapped up in comfort & taking pictures of what's going on outside.
Beginning the day by lighting a candle & letting your child or children blow it out when the day ends.
Playing a game, in front of the fireplace, that helps your child learn a topic you've been studying.
These are just a few examples of how you can create hygge moments in your homeschooling day. If you would like to know more about how to give your kids hygge experiences this winter, check out my book, Hygge Homeschooling & take my 30-day hygge challenge, and my web page on winter homeschooling.
