Hygge Style for Cozy Winter Comfort

"Hygge is all about comfort, so whatever fabrics are cozy to you will work," say Meik Wiking, author of The Little Book of Hygge: Danish Secrets to Happy Living. "But remember, Danes like sleek, minimalistic fashion, so you can be comfy but not sloppy." ~ MindBodyGreen

Creating a hygge comfort capsule for winter means, at the very least, that you don't get cold but instead are enveloped in warmth. But hygge style goes beyond that to create maximum comfort with each outfit.

Take a moment to think about what's in your closet right now. If you wanted to created an outfit that would feel like a hug, could you do it with what you have right now?

If not, I challenge you to find a way to create at least one. For when you need it. Even if you don't have winter blues, I encourage you to plan for one.

But if you do have winter blues or seasonal affective disorder, this is another way you can nurture yourself during the winter. Another way to add comfort.

One symptom I have often had as a decades-long winter sufferer is difficulty getting up in the morning. And everything took longer in the "getting ready" process.

Does that happen to you, too? I wonder if it would help to look forward to putting on something that would feel wonderful all day.

Check out my hygge style pinboard for more comfy, cozy winter outfit ideas.

See you next time!

Love, Jeanine

"Style inspiration comes by the way of Scandi-chic Danish blogger Isabella Thordsen. Her penchant for fluffy knits, loose cotton tees and minimalistic jewellery make a perfect example of elevated indoor dressing. To get the look, jersey or knitted track pants are simple and affordable essentials, though the Allude cashmere iteration, new to Net-a-Porter, makes for a über indulgent way to wear this trend. Next stop: a slouchy sweater." ~ Who What Wear

I prefer uplifting colors, especially in winter. Bright red, orange, green. All those grays only make me a part of the gray haze this time of year. :-)

Stella, I know what you mean! I sometimes wear orange just for that reason. And I never wear grey. But sometimes, in the winter, I feel like I don't quite have enough energy for bright colors. So, then I wear ivory or cream, often with a rich brown. Love it!
