"One of the most direct ways to increase happiness is to do more of the things that make us happy. This exercise prompts you to engage in a variety of activities associated with happiness and reflect on how they make you feel." ~ Berkeley Happiness Practices
What are your plans for the weekend?

If you're hibernating along with the rest of us this month, I hope you have lots of hygge moments planned. This month often feels like a knockout punch for those of us who have winter blues.

So if on the weekends, our time is more under our control, how can we plan a weekend that will punch back and win? This is a time to go for the gold where hygge is concerned.

And I read something I am sharing here today that may offer a way to make this weekend's hygge  moments even more special.

The quote below suggests a kind of formula for creating the happiest possible moments. Read it and see what it calls to mind for you.

Not only can you try it this weekend, but it also could be a way to begin the finding-your-happiness-superpower exercise if you haven't done that yet.

"Seeking happiness through pleasurable, engaging, and meaningful activities was found to predict life satisfaction in a sample of 845 adults. Activities that involved deep mental engagement or meaningful pursuits were more strongly associated with happiness than pleasure-seeking activities, but the combination of all three types of activity was associated with the highest levels of life satisfaction." ~ Berkeley Happiness Practices

So following their advice would mean reflecting on what makes you happy, and trying to put together combinations of activities you enjoy that involve all three types mentioned in the quote and then, paying attention to how you felt each time you tried.

You could call it happiness research. :)

And anything that worked could get added to a happiness to-do list. You also can use this criteria in planning activities for your kids if you'd like.

Watch the video above for a specific exercise you could try this weekend. I found it in one of the articles posted on the Berkeley website.

Have a great hygge weekend!

Love, Jeanine

Great quote and I'm going to be taking it easy this weekend since hubby, granddaughter and I are finishing up with the flu. A cup of hot tea while in hybernation sounds good!

This is so encouraging and positive! I've been enjoying the winter Olympics. This morning, I made a smoothie with plain Greek yogurt, almond milk, and raspberries. Yum. Tomorrow, I'm going to ship a box that I painted to someone in a craft group, as part of an exchange. Then, I'm going to make butternut squash soup. I gave up candies and baked goods for Lent. Today is day three and I didn't give in to the temptation! I am looking for the happiness and am finding some! I hope that you've found some, too, Jeanine. P.S. Your posts give me happiness.

Alice, that is so sweet!! I love reading your blog posts, too! And I'm so glad to hear you are happy. Wow, that Lent thing sounds like a major undertaking. I couldn't do it right now. I'll see how I feel in the summer about what I'm eating. :)

This winter, in general, has been one of the happiest I have had in a long time. But this month has been difficult. I'm hanging in there, though.
