Spiritual Practice & Coming Back to Yourself

4/6/2018

"Spiritual practices help us discover our deepest values, address our longing to connect with the divine, and propel us on the journey to wholeness — all aspects of spirituality. Spiritual practices are specific activities you do to deepen your relationships with the sacred and the world around you. They enable you to become actively engaged with your inner or 'true' selves— the depth of your being." ~ Spirituality and Practice

And making that spiritual practice hygge could mean personalizing it so that it fits you like a glove that was custom-made for your hand. One the path back to spirituality, or when you are wanting a path that is deeper, hygge can help. But more on that in future posts.

The quote above really captures my reasons for beginning again to create a spiritual practice.

In wandering away from my spiritual practice, I left parts of myself behind. And even if I still wasn't sure I knew what the heck I believed, I knew I needed to walk back in to the process.

Slowly and gradually. Stay tuned.

Have you ever wandered away from yourself? How did you bring yourself back?

Love, Jeanine

My most prominent Spiritual practice is the one you discussed the other day and that is Prayer. I definitely feel a little lost if I don't start my day with prayer.

That's great, Chris! I still pray, too. I find myself doing it without even thinking of it.

I think losing/leaving bits of ourselves behind is a big reason why we feel lost for a while. I don't think we find those parts of ourselves again. Rather, we have to regrow--or re-create--them. That might be one reason why it takes so long sometimes. This time around, journaling and some light meditation before I go to sleep have been very helpful for me. (I use the Insight Meditation Timer app for Android.)

Hey, that's a good point! Maybe you're right. I need to get back into both journaling and meditation.

When my mom went to the nursing home, it felt as if my world was falling apart. My spirituality wasn't strong enough to handle it. My mind kept taking me back to the past, to a time when my parents knew better than I did. But reality always brought me back to the empty present. My spirituality and my sense of who I was had been shattered. I am picking up the pieces now and am putting myself back together but i can't remember where all of the pieces went so maybe, I am just reinventing myself. I feel my spirituality growing again. But I'm still trying to bring myself back. We'll see what happens...

Alice, I can so relate to what you're saying! Especially about having to start over and reinvent yourself. I feel like that is my task, too. But I am SO glad you feel your spirituality coming back. That is wonderful!!

Reading on Jeanine. Personalised spiritual practice helps. I have my own set of stuff that I use everyday when I have to meditate. Lovely post.

Thank you, Snehal! I think that's where I'm at, deciding what can be part of my own set of stuff to do.

Prayer is a vital part of my day, there are times I pray without thinking about it ahead of time also Jeanine. But it's a big part of my life.

I think that's wonderful, Martha! Hopefully, one day, it will be a bigger part of mine.

A lovely post. I often wonder and come back to where I was by god's grace. He gives me the power to be back to the routine but also helps me to make a difference,

I'm glad you have that, Snehal! That's great. I used to be a Christian and I know that will not be a faith I will ever go back to, but I am glad for others who have it.
