Surprising Style Survey Statistics

When was the last time you thought or said, “I have nothing to wear?”

It’s a common refrain. But, of course, when we say that, what we really mean, is that we have nothing we want to wear or think is suitable. And you might be surprised if you knew exactly how many clothing items you own.

“According to a new study by ClosetMaid, the average American woman has 103 items of clothing in her wardrobe. But she considers 21% to be ‘unwearable’, 33% too tight and 24% too loose, according to a survey of 1,000 women.” - Her.ie

But What are You Wearing?

If you have 100 items of clothing, how much of your clothes do you actually wear?

Studies suggest that most women believe they are wearing much more of their clothing than they really are. One study, by Movinga, a relocation company, found that among American woman, 82% of their clothes go unworn.

That means that American women were wearing 18% of the clothes they owned. But they thought they were wearing 61%!

Are the statistics true for you? Do you think you might wear less than a fifth of what you own?

Many women think that the solution to having so many clothes they don’t wear is to buy more, in the hopes that this time what they buy will be clothes they want to wear. But what if that’s the wrong way to go about it?

What if the best solution is a smaller wardrobe, filled with clothes you don’t forget, and will wear often, because you love them?

Do You Like the Clothes You Wear?

A survey of 1,000 American women conducted by ClosetMaid found that women only really like 10 per cent of their wardrobe. It also found that one in ten women are depressed when they open their closet and 40 per cent say that they don't like any
of their clothes.

Does Getting Dressed in the Morning Depress You?

Does getting dressed in the morning sometimes feel depressing to you?

In another study, women said that their biggest struggle with style was putting outfits together. The ClosetMaid survey got similar responses.

But what if putting outfits together was easy? And you knew that you would feel confident about how you looked in them, even before you put them on?

And let’s go back to the idea of having a closet filled only with clothes you love, that love you back. Would you want that, if it were possible?

Because it is! To find out more, go to bit.ly/gift-of-style.

See you tomorrow!

Love, Jeanine

Yes, we do! But you're right - it's shocking to think that so many of us do not like our own style. Or wear what we have in the closet. I'd like to help change that for the women who read this blog or work with me.

Jeanine, WOW. What a powerful piece. I have experienced Wardrobe Hatred! At one time, so many of my clothing pieces needed to be IRONED before wearing. Fixed that with the newer polyester textiles that feel silky and are both washable and uncrushable! Now they roll up in a drawer, and when I hunt for pieces I only hunt by color and pattern. Saves huge gobs of time!

WOW what a closet full of clothes! Very interesting topic, I think I were about 10% of what I have. I always pull out the same things, over and over. I need to purge everything I haven't worn in awhile and start fresh.
